Amber on Ice

Having your picture taken with the ceremonial South Pole Marker is called getting your "Hero Shot". They have a ceremonial pole, the silver ball on top of a barber shop looking pole; and then the geographic south pole marker -- the smaller, silver pole. The geographic marker continues to move as the ice shifts year after year. The Winterover Crew each season gets to help design the following year's marker. Each New Year's Day they have a celebration where they change out the old marker and affix the new one.
